Every Friday and Saturday evening in Cherokee, crowds gather around 7 pm at the Oconaluftee Island Park to sit beside a roaring fire and listen to regional storytellers and performers share traditional Cherokee tales, myths, and history passed down through the ages.

Sometimes there is also traditional Cherokee dance and music. No two weekend nights are the same. Nearby is the soothing sound of water, as the Oconaluftee river gently flows by.

We are nature and not separate from it. So let’s come together to celebrate the forests and community we ARE. To lift our spirits, touch our hearts, and change our minds about what is possible when we combine our forces to create magic.

We’ve partnered with SlayTheMic to bring our annual event to Asheville again this August.

Woods & Wilds will feature five live storytellers, music, and fun for all.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 in donations to support the meaningful work we’re doing at the intersection of forests, climate, and justice. *All are welcome. Reserve your entry in advance. You can help us reach our goal with a suggested donation of $25 per person.

    Save the date! Sept. 7.

Nonprofit Bynum Front Porch has a thriving summer weekly music series. Now we're thrilled to announce the revamp of the monthly storytelling series (featuring a mixture of professional & local storytellers) with season opener Michael Reno Harrell, Sept. 7 at 7 pm! In the iconic 90 yr old Bynum General Store.

Michael is an award-winning songwriter, veteran storyteller, and entertainer from the Southern Appalachian Mountains, where storytelling is as much a part of the culture as is music. A consummate performer, Harrell’s combination of music and storytelling is based in experience – sometimes very funny, sometimes a bit scary, often heartwarming, and always entertaining.

Stay tuned for more details on this and other planned performances in the series.
