North Carolina Storytelling Guild Scholarship Request Guidelines
The North Carolina Storytelling Guild is committed to promoting and supporting storytellers. The Guild Scholarship program makes funding available to support Guild storytellers to achieve new insights into how stories address our place in the world. The Guild Scholarship program awards scholarships in four distinct areas: (a) professional development,(b) presentation attendance, (c)attendance at the Guild’s Winter Workshop, and(d) attendance at the Guild’s Spring Retreat. For the purposes of this document, the Guild defines professional development as furthering of storytelling skills through workshops. The Guild defines presentation attendance as attendance at a storytelling festival or arts festival featuring varied storytelling styles.
All Guild storytellers are encouraged to apply for a scholarship in one of these four areas using the Scholarship Request Form. The Scholarship Request Form contains areas of required information that must be completed for funding consideration, including how the applicant intends to benefit from the scholarship. Guild members applying for a Scholarship must have been a Guild member in good standing for at least twelve (12) months prior to their application.
All requests for Scholarship Funding must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee. Requests must be received by the Scholarship Committee at least 4 weeks before the event application date.
The Guild Scholarship Committee is tasked with receiving and reviewing all Scholarship applications and awarding all Scholarship funds. Fund recipients are limited to receiving $500 per Guild fiscal year.
For Guild-sponsored events or programs, e.g. Winter Workshop, Spring Retreat, Festival, the scholarship will cover registration or ticket fees which will be credited directly to the Guild account to cover those expenses for the applicant. For events and programs NOT sponsored by the Guild, Scholarship funds awarded will not be more than expense receipts received by the Scholarship Committee.
