I organized Milton Renaissance Foundation in order to display and archive the history of the 1796 town of Milton, NC, located at the Virginia border on the Dan River. The unique history of the area has inspired me to write the stories in song, stories that cover the marking of the NC/VA dividing line, boatmen, Miltonians wanting a train so badly, and one documenting a train accident in which a young African American woman from Salem was drowned. My favorite so far is a love ballad using many phrases from General Stephen Dodson Ramseur’s letters to Ellen, who lived in Milton, before he was killed in battle.
