Sturm, Brian
Dr. Brian Sturm has been a professional folktale storyteller and storytelling scholar for over 30 years. His research focuses on immersion, the state of being completely engrossed in whatever you are doing, whether that’s reading, story listening, or playing video games. Dr. Sturm has dedicated his career to exploring the experience of immersion and the various influences that help us get immersed. At UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science, he is also the director of Story Squad, a storytelling outreach project to bring folktales back to communities. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Sturm was a natural history museum docent, gave planetarium shows, worked as a wildlife rehabilitator (raising baby songbirds), and taught outdoor education to 5th graders in California.
