North Carolina Storytelling Guild presents

Spring Retreat & Workshop

April 3-5, 2020
at the
Wildacres Retreat Center, Little Switzerland, NC

“A Gathering of Ghostly Tales” Join us for a fun weekend of exploring mysteries and ghost stories while learning new ways to tell them.

We’ll delve into finding stories and crafting them to scare an audience, with maybe some ghost hunting ideas too. Learn techniques for using and developing your personal style of performing. We’ll have music, props ideas and more to expand your own or new stories. So, bring your stories to tell and/ or research to work on together as we go deeper into the art of intrigue.

Don’t be afraid of the dark as we enter the misty world of ghosts and scary things that go bump in the night. The bonfire will cast eerie shadows as we spin a web of chilling ghost tales. There will be a surprise appearance from famous haunted Washington, NC Ghost Tour creator, Terry Rollins. Folks can share their ghostly encounters, and Cynthia will recount some of her adventures telling ghost stories in haunted and strange places around the country and Europe.

“Ghost stories are really popular,” says Cynthia, “they are what I call trans-generational: they appeal to readers and listeners ages 2 to 92.”

Cynthia Brown has been an acclaimed performer, educator, and television and radio personality for over four decades.

She has been writing stories and performing them since childhood. Cynthia is the co-author of Folktales and Ghost Stories of North Carolina’s Piedmont, co-author of Folklore and Food, and author of Pirates and Ghosts of the Carolinas’ Coast all from Schiffer Publishing Co. Her CD is Ghost Stories from the Graveyard.

She is a star of stage, television, and radio. Her stories can be heard on NPR and she appears in the Discovery Channel Series “Monsters and Mysteries” show about “Lydia” the Jamestown ghostly hitchhiker.

She is one of the founders of the North Carolina Storytelling Guild, Triad Storytelling Exchange, and a festival organizer.

Using her many talents to bring texture to her down-home Southern style, Cynthia’s stories engage her audiences. Some of her oldest favorites are ghost stories.
