I am a retired ecologist with 35 years of experience planning and implementing land conservation and environmental protection in Maine, Tennessee, Hawaii, Samoa, and North Carolina. Since retirement, I have become a professional storyteller whose practice is to tell tall tales and true tales based on my own experiences and those of the people I know. I am a regular at the Front Porch Story Festival in Raleigh, NC, and I tell at other festivals from time to time. I’ve entered two Monti Story Slams and won them both, coming in third in the 2014 Monti Grand Slam. I also tell at retirement centers and as entertainment for non-profit events.
I am also the producer of Roadhouse Storytellers™ at the renowned Pittsboro Roadhouse on US 64 in downtown Pittsboro. These storytelling shows are at 7 PM on the third Wednesdays of odd-numbered months (except July). The stories are generally edgy but family friendly true or tall tales. The storytelling venue includes full meal service and a full bar, so plan to get there before 6:30 to order your dinner and first round of drinks before the stories begin. There is no cover charge. Storytellers who want to tell at this venue are encouraged to get in touch with me.
We are all made of stories! Stories are what we remember, what we dream of, and how we think of each other. Every story has joy, wisdom, and truth in it. And every story is a whole world. As the author John Crowley said, “with any good story, the further in you go, the bigger it gets.”
